Continuing the Journey…
We had a great start to this year’s African American History Month. Our thanks to all those who participated in the worship service. The forum was very well attended with an energetic discussion of the book, Caste, by Isabel Wilkerson. Our hope, as we go forward, is to discuss and also formulate ways to engage one another in action to bring help bring about justice and change.
Mikki Boyd has reached out to musicians to provide special music – with introduction – for this month and for future presentation. Stan Fong has chosen organ pieces composed and/or arranged by African Americans.
The forum this Sunday will be a presentation from Dr. Jocelyn Freeman Garrick of the Alameda County Health Department. She will talk about and answer questions we may have about the COVID-19 vaccine.
Forever Young will feature a presentation by Ms. Regina Boone. Ms. Boone is a photojournalist who has spent more than twenty years documenting human resiliency in her hometown of Richmond, VA. One of her photos was selected by CNN for a 2020 list of “100 Photos the Defined the Decade.” She has a very interesting story about her family.
Soul Food Dinner Recipes – send your recipes to Sheila Sims or Sandra Lee so they can be compiled in time to be share at the soul food dinner on February 28.
Looking to the future
As we look forward to the time when we will be able to meet together again, plans need to be in place to pick up and institute church programs. Our remote worship service is one of the things that will continue. If you have any interest in joining the audiovisual team, please send me (Pastor Carolyn) an email. As the team continues to upgrade and enhance our ability to livestream, we will need to have folks who are willing to learn and volunteer.
