Family,
Some thoughts as we approach the last Sunday of August:
Worship
Sunday after Sunday at LABC we are blessed by magnificent music in worship. This was certainly true yesterday and on behalf of the congregation I offer thanks to Stan, Mikki, Carolyn, the Retreat Choir (Terri Brenneman, pianist) and our guest flutist, Courtney Wise. This coming Sunday Carolyn will be our musical leader, something she does every year in late August as she celebrates her birthday. The Dan Damon hymn we will be singing is “Worship Is For People.” The second stanza reads, “People seeking healing, aching to belong, seek a lighted window and a hopeful song. Broken, hurting people need relief from pain, need a place of comfort where compassion reigns.” The central scripture will be Exodus 25: 1-9 in which Moses, in the wilderness, receives instructions to build the Tabernacle. The Tabernacle is to be a symbol of God’s presence with the wandering people, a sign that worship is for those who are tired, thirsty and prone to losing their way.
Concerns and Celebrations
Carolyn M., Sandra L., Carol L., Katrina L., Paige B., Joan P., Dave R., Doris E., Yvonne Y., Julio C., Lola A., Joel R., Wally B., Theresako H., Mary K., Mariel P., George H., and Marie J., lifted prayers to which the congregation responded “This is our prayer, O God.”

Creating Worship at LABC
A new season of this monthly gathering beings this Sunday at 12:30. First time participants are warmly invited as we work together to craft resources for coming Sunday mornings. This week Pastor Nancy Hall of FBC Berkeley will work with us on preparing for World Communion Month in October (Family Room).
