Advent 2020 – December 16
A Discussion with Henry
(Hop Pop is aka Pastor Jim. Henry is the eldest son of Aaron and Teresa as well as big brother to Hudson and a soon to be born sister.)
Mark 9:8
Suddenly, when they looked around, they no longer saw anyone with them except Jesus.
Hop Pop: When is your birthday?
Henry: December 25th
Hop Pop: Do you know what year you were born?
Henry: 2013
Hop Pop: That makes you how old?
Henry: Six. I am turning seven.
Hop Pop: You share a birthday with Jesus. What year to you think he was born?
Henry: I don’t know. More than a thousand years ago?
Hop Pop: Probably a little over two thousand years ago. Good answer though. Do you like sharing a birthday with Jesus?
Henry: I don’t know. I guess it makes me happy.
Hop Pop: Is there anything you would like to say to Jesus about December 25th.
Henry: Happy Birthday.
Hop Pop: If you could talk to Jesus about his birthday are there any question you would ask?
Henry: Were there really donkeys there when you were born?
Hop Pop: Most people like birthday presents. What do you think Jesus might like?
Henry: A leopard puppet.
Hop Pop: That’s interesting. It makes me think you might like a leopard puppet also. People like to sing Happy Birthday. Are there any Christmas songs you like to sing?
Henry: Jingle Bell Rock and Twelve Days of Christmas.
Hop Pop: Is there anything else you would like to say to Jesus?
Henry: I am glad you are always in heaven.
Hop Pop: I am glad we will be together for your birthday and Jesus’ birthday. Is there anything you are looking forward to for your birthday this year?
Henry: My dino decorations?
Hop Pop: What are those?
Henry: You know, plates with dinosaurs on them.
Hop Pop: I think Jesus might like plates like that.
Henry: Me too.
