Lent & Advent

A Meditation for Lent

Jim Hopkins

February 26, 2020

Family,

In preparation for Ash Wednesday and Lent members of the LABC community were invited to reflect on the words of Jesus as recorded in Luke 11:4 (New Revised Standard Version), “And forgive us our sins, for we ourselves forgive everyone indebted to us. And do not bring us to the time of trial.”  Each Friday during Lent I will share one of the responses with you. I found them to be insightful and encouraging. I trust that you will as well.

Grace and Peace,

Jim H.

Instead of “reinventing the wheel” I picked up a copy of The Book of Common Prayer and turned to the Ash Wednesday section and I thought the “Litany of Penance” kind of said it all. An excerpt:

That it may please thee to bring into the way of truth all such as have erred, and are deceived,
We beseech thee to hear us, good Lord.
That it may please thee to give us a heart to love and fear thee, and diligently to live after they commandments,
We beseech thee to hear us, good Lord.
