Midweek Message

A Meditation For Lent

Jim Hopkins

February 27, 2020

In preparation for Ash Wednesday and Lent members of the LABC community were invited to reflect on the words of Jesus as recorded in Luke 11:4 (New Revised Standard Version), “And forgive us our sins, for we ourselves forgive everyone indebted to us. And do not bring us to the time of trial.” Each Friday I will share one of the responses with you. I find them to be very meaningful and I trust that you will as well.

Grace and Peace,

Jim H.

I’ve understood this prayer in some of the older translations as forgive us our sins as we forgive others. It has certainly been a meaningful motivation to forgive others if I want to be forgiven. This becomes particularly acute when I project my negative attitudes onto someone else. I realize my sin is judging someone for that which I hate in myself. This passage speaks directly to how interconnected we all are and the need for reconciliation.
